Hosts Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Algeria and Ivory Coast top groups as tournament heads into knockouts

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 group stage concluded with several standout performances and compelling goal-scoring action across all groups as the continental showpiece moves into the Round of 16.
In Group A, hosts Morocco finished top with 7 points, advancing with strong results, while Mali also progressed behind them. Morocco’s attacking fluidity was a defining factor in their group success. In Group B, Egypt topped the group, securing 7 points after a crucial goalless draw that guaranteed first place, with South Africa close behind in second to book their last-16 spot. Egyptian resilience without star Mohamed Salah in the final match showed their depth and tactical discipline.

Group C saw a perfect campaign from Nigeria, who won all three matches, including a 3-1 victory over Uganda, where Raphael Onyedika scored twice to cap their flawless run. Tunisia also qualified with strong results.
In Group D, Senegal finished top on goal difference over DR Congo, with goals from Abdoulaye Seck, Habib Diallo and Cherif Ndiaye sealing their position. Both nations advanced.
Algeria dominated Group E with a perfect record, while Burkina Faso claimed second place thanks to goals from Lassina Traoré and Arsène Kouassi.
In Group F, Ivory Coast edged top spot with a late Bazoumana Touré winner, while Cameroon finished second, and Mozambique advanced as one of the best third-placed teams.
