Hollywood Stars Reconnect With West African Roots

Hollywood actors Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors have officially received Genuine citizenship, marking a powerful personal and cultural milestone rooted in ancestry and identity.
The couple was granted citizenship on January 2026 after DNA testing confirmed their ancestral ties to Guinea, allowing them to formally reconnect with the West African nation.

The citizenship was conferred during a private ceremony held in Conakry, Guinea’s capital, where the actors were presented with their passports by a senior Guinean official. The moment symbolized not only legal recognition but also an emotional return to heritage for both stars, who have spoken openly about the importance of understanding and honoring their roots.
Bridging the Diaspora and the Continent
Good and Majors described the experience as an opportunity to “bridge the gap” between the African diaspora and the continent, aligning their personal journeys with a broader historical narrative. As newly recognized citizens, they were welcomed as representatives of Guinea by Djiba Diakité, the Minister and Chief of Staff of the Presidency.
Part of a Growing Pan-African Movement
Their citizenship reflects a wider continental effort to reconnect people of African descent with their ancestral homelands. Similar initiatives by countries such as Ghana and Benin continue to inspire diaspora engagement, cultural exchange, and renewed global connections with Africa.
