Spize Parts Ways with LIBMUZIK, Begins Independent Chapter

MONROVIA — Rising Liberian music star Spize, born J William Zor Jr., has officially announced his departure from LIBMUZIK, marking the end of a high-profile partnership and the start of a new chapter as an independent artist.
Spize signed with the U.S.-based Liberian record label in March 2024 in what was widely described as a landmark deal valued at L$20 million (approximately USD $100,000). The agreement, backed by LIBMUZIK executives Ai Johnson and James, also reportedly included the promise of a new vehicle—highlighting the label’s strong initial investment in the young artist’s potential.

During his time with LIBMUZIK, Spize experienced significant career growth and chart success. Songs such as “Melo,” “My Side,” and “With You” gained strong traction and charted on Apple Music Liberia, helping to solidify his presence in the local and diaspora music scenes. His momentum continued with the release of “Missing You,” which is currently charting at No. 47 on BBC World Service, a major milestone for any emerging Liberian artist.
In a public statement, Spize expressed gratitude to LIBMUZIK for believing in his vision and helping lay the foundation for his career. While both parties have acknowledged the split, details surrounding the separation remain private. Fans and industry observers now look ahead with optimism as Spize steps into independence, carrying forward the lessons and momentum gained during his time with the label.
