Boakai Champions People-Centered Infrastructure for Liberia’s Future
National Conference in Nimba County Sets Vision for Sustainable Growth and Civil Dignity

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has called for a transformative approach to national development, urging leaders to prioritize “smarter” and “people-centered” infrastructure to secure Liberia’s long-term prosperity.
Speaking at the opening of the National Infrastructure Conference on Monday, the President emphasized that the era of temporary fixes must give way to a strategic vision focused on durability and human dignity.

The conference, hosted in Gompa City, serves as a direct response to the visible decay of the nation’s essential systems. President Boakai noted that the initiative was born from a deep concern regarding the state of Liberia’s roads, energy grids, and water systems—critical sectors that continue to bear the scars of past conflict.
He framed the current state of infrastructure not just as a logistical challenge, but as a barrier to the quality of life that must be addressed with immediate urgency.
During his address to government officials and international partners, the President highlighted that rebuilding is about more than concrete and cables; it is about expanding economic opportunity and restoring the pride of the Liberian people. He called for an honest national dialogue to move beyond the legacy of deterioration and toward a future defined by innovation and sustainable planning.
President Boakai concluded by challenging stakeholders to adopt a culture of accountability and long-term thinking. He stressed that by designing infrastructure that serves the needs of every community, the government can transform the national landscape and build a more resilient foundation for the generations to come.
