DSM Experience Launches “Race to 5K” to Build a More Inclusive Future

Community-driven fundraiser supports sensory-friendly spaces for families in Delaware

The DSM Experience, short for Delaware Sensory Museum Inc., is a growing community organization dedicated to creating inclusive, sensory-friendly environments where children and families of all abilities can feel safe, welcomed, and understood.

Founded and led by India Williams, DSM was born from a vision to provide hands-on, calming, and engaging spaces for individuals with sensory sensitivities.

Last year, DSM Experience made a major impact by hosting an unforgettable autism awareness banquet featuring Grammy-winning R&B singer Faith Evans as a special guest. Her presence brought powerful visibility to the organization’s mission, as she shared a heartfelt message centered on advocacy, inclusion, and hope for families navigating autism and sensory challenges. The event blended inspiration with community connection, creating a welcoming, sensory-conscious atmosphere where families felt seen, supported, and celebrated.

For the DSM Experience community, the evening meant far more than a celebrity appearance. It validated the experiences of parents who often struggle to find understanding spaces for their children and gave families a sense of belonging in a room filled with compassion and shared purpose.

Faith Evans’ involvement also helped shine a wider spotlight on DSM’s work, strengthening community awareness and encouraging broader support for inclusive programming. The banquet became a defining moment, reinforcing DSM Experience’s role as not just an organization, but a growing movement committed to building a future where every child and family can participate fully, comfortably, and without barriers.

Now, DSM is building on that momentum with its “Race to 5K” fundraiser. The goal is to raise $5,000 to expand programs, provide family resources, and move closer to establishing a permanent sensory museum and community hub in Wilmington. For DSM families, this initiative represents more than fundraising — it’s a step toward lasting inclusion, understanding, and belonging.
