Over the past decade, Afrobeats has grown from a regional sound into a global phenomenon, with Nigeria often at the center of the movement.

Tucked in the West African coast is another country; Liberia, whose artists and entertainers have slowly but surely carved out a space in this booming genre. Behind much of this momentum stands one of Afrobeats’ biggest stars Davido.
Davido’s connection to Liberia dates back to his unforgettable 2019 concert at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia, where he performed in front of thousands. That event wasn’t just a concert, it was a cultural reset. His presence electrified Liberia’s entertainment industry and gave it a newfound confidence. Shortly after, he collaborated with Liberian artist Kobazzie on the remix of Bounce, a move that introduced Liberian music to broader audiences. That remix wasn’t just a hit; it was a message that Liberia had something worth hearing.
Davido’s concert in Liberia was a game-changer, the event that truly opened the floodgates for collaborations between Nigerian and Liberian artists. It wasn’t long before we saw Bucky Raw’s “Thank You” with Ice Prince, or even Stunna’s 2018 “Balance” featuring Iyanya. Davido’s support remains consistent, cementing his role as a key catalyst for this movement.

Now in 2025, Davido continues to play a pivotal role in bridging Liberia and Afrobeats. On his latest tour, he’s spotlighting Liberian talents like DJ foren, Jzyno, and actress-comedian Marylove, giving them platforms they might not otherwise have accessed. His willingness to include Liberians in his orbit isn’t just support, it’s validation. It has helped open doors, shift perceptions, and place Liberia in conversations where it was once overlooked.
In many ways, Davido has been the catalyst for Liberia’s emergence in the Afrobeats scene. His influence, collaborations, and support have empowered Liberian entertainers to dream bigger, reach farther, and most importantly, push their culture forward on a global stage.
