Nigerian Stars Shine Bright at the 9th AFRIMA Awards in Lagos
Rema leads the night as Africa’s biggest music celebration crowns its finest

Nigerian music stars delivered a dominant showing at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held on January 11, 2026, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
The glamorous night celebrated African music excellence across the continent, with Nigeria firmly at the center of the spotlight.
Rema emerged as the biggest winner of the evening, taking home three major awards, including the highly coveted Artiste of the Year.

His victories highlighted another landmark year for the global Afrobeats sensation, whose influence continues to stretch far beyond Africa. Burna Boy added to Nigeria’s success by winning Album of the Year, further cementing his reputation as one of the continent’s most consistent and impactful artists.
Rising star Shallipopi also claimed a major honor, winning Song of the Year and signaling the arrival of a new voice in African pop culture.
Beyond Nigeria, regional awards showcased Africa’s diversity and talent. Rema and Wendy Shay topped Western Africa, while Yo Maps and Nontokozo Mkhize represented Southern Africa. Northern Africa honors went to Adviser and Sherine. Rwandan hitmaker Element Eleéh was named Producer of the Year, recognizing his behind-the-scenes excellence.
The 2026 AFRIMA ceremony reaffirmed Africa’s creative power and Lagos’ status as a cultural hub for the continent’s music industry.
